PHONSECA – “I SEE STARS”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
The electronic solo project of Bristol-based artist Matthew O’Connor, Phonseca, continues with the videoclip of “I See Stars”, the most popular single of the debut album Between a Dream. The album expands on the EP Afterglow ‘s sound with electro beats, intelligent pop sensibilities and minimal ambient textures. “I See Stars” videoclip recalls the theme of Space and Nasa through a variety of colours and a psychedelic atmosphere.
After playing synths in bands around Bristol’s eclectic music scene, with styles as diverse as Rock, Britpop, Shoegaze, Psyche and House, Matthew followed a more minimal Ambient/Electronica direction. His training as a classical pianist also had a subtle influence on the sound.
“I felt it needed a really beautiful video that had lots of colour and Space/NASA references in there. I was lucky enough to go to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Centre as a child and more recently I actually met Jon Jenkins of NASA, at Sonar festival, whose job it is to find life on other planets. So cool! I just had to go up and shake his hand. The director Paul Stevenson has done excellent work on it and I was blown away when I saw it.
It fits perfectly with the track and mesmerizes me every time and he even managed to get the influence of those wonderful Hubble images in there too which was fantastic.” ~Matthew O’Connor
