Rising alternative indie artist Devon Thompson unveils her striking new single “Pillory” companied by an equally evocative official music video. Marking a bold new chapter in her sonic evolution, “Pillory” immerses listeners in a lush, cinematic soundscape that feels both timeless and distinctly her own. “Pillory” captures a mood that is at once intimate and expansive, balancing emotional vulnerability with sweeping sonic textures. The accompanying video mirrors this tension, bringing the song’s emotional core to life through visually arresting imagery and a deeply immersive tone.
Born in Los Angeles early this century, Devon Thompson comments that her earliest memory was punching through a pane of glass, just to see if she could. This type of delusion was just the beginning of her life of fantasy. Growing up as the antithesis of Los Angeles, in a way, Devon’s early years were permeated by Bill Evans & Siouxsie and the Banshees. By the age of 19, Devon had been playing Los Angeles clubs with her bands for many seasons.
Her recordings are thus far lingering with the shimmering haze of The Smiths, The Sundays, and Mazzy Star, while also having the edge of The Smashing Pumpkins style alt rock. Combining elements of shoegaze, dream pop and indie rock, Devon describes her music as “whimsigoth” and “sparkle music.”
