AURELIA & ICARUS MOTH – “FRACTURED” (FEAT ECHOES)
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Aurelia & Icarus Moth today have shared “FRACTURED” (feat Echos), the latest single from their upcoming EP PROMETHEANS, out July 25th. The glowing, trance-inducing track is the final preview of the duo’s new EP before it’s release. “Fractured is the most concrete song on the EP, and the most devastating,” Aurelia explains. ” It’s about a long-distance relationship and growing apart from someone you love. I wrote this in a single session, and then brought it to Icarus Moth and Echos, who made it come to life in a beautiful and meaningful way. Working with Echos was also such a dream, and I was able to push myself a lot more vocally in this song.”
Produced by Icarus Moth with visuals, songwriting, and vocal production from Aurelia, the 5 track EP is a planet of inventive design, exploring eroding soundscapes and queer otherworldly escapism. Aurelia also has brought forth their expertise as a storied visual artist with work published in Vogue Italia, Wonderland, Alternative Press, and more. Icarus Moth, who works in commercial music, uses this project to experiment with new sonic textures and arrangement styles, pushing beyond genre conventions.
Fractured is a sonic representation of how sadness can lead to physical pain. Longing melodies flow into jagged textures and rhythms that are meant to feel harsh and uncomfortable, all the while juxtaposed against the triumphant bass and chord movement telling you (me) to release this pain and longing,” says Icarus Moth.
“‘FRACTURED’ felt like going back to my roots of all the parts I love about electronic music,” Echos explains regarding the collaboration. “When Aurelia and Icarus Moth asked me to be a part of it, of course I said yes–we wanted to invoke a feeling of longing for something that never quite seems to align. But the best way to let those emotions out is to flow through them and I feel like the soaring melodies in the drop feel like a release of those emotions.”
Aurelia Bio
Sprung from the mind of New York-born producer, vocalist, & visual artist, Aurelia (They/She) summons powerful healing. Crooning over experimental electronics, they rally wide-ranging influences of opera, global rhythm, & old-soul instrumentation into a project that has reached over 1M Global Streams.
Aurelia’s songwriting, visuals & photography have cultivated other notable acts, including MOTHICA, Destin Conrad, Echos, Colorblind, MOONZz and Ehiorobo, and conglomerates PUMA & Mercedez Benz. Their photography is recognized in Vogue Italia, Wonderland, Alt Press, NUMERO, DJ MAG, & more.
Aurelia turned to songwriting and production in 2019, when a suicide attempt, hospitalization, and PTSD diagnosis pushed them to live on their own terms. With over 300,000 plays in just 6 inaugural months, debut single “Wax” and its remixes received ecstatic industry acclaim from EDM.com, RiverBeats, and more. The accompanying music video, carved from a $400 budget, was an official selection of the Dam Film Fest and Indie Shorts Fest, with nods for Best Music Video, Best Director (Aurelia), & Best Original Composition.
Aurelia’s sophomore single “Sinister Things” surpassed its predecessor with over 400,000 streams in 6 months; charting on iTunes Canada’s Electronic charts at #70. A survivor anthem about autonomy and reclaiming power from cycles of abuse.
Just as a moth is naturally drawn to light, Icarus Moth is drawn to sound. With only a few releases, the Brooklyn-turned-Colorado producer, composer, and pianist has amassed 30M global streams and charted #1 on Bandcamp’s indie r&b charts for his 2024 EP MUTAMELIOR.
Icarus Moth’s unorthodox approach to music and disregard for genre has led him to collaborate with far-reaching artists and brands, including MOTHICA, Ehiorobo, A R I Z O N A, MEMBA, and Crystal Fighters. Icarus Moth’s exploration of sonic textures has earned commercial recognition, including three Red Dot Awards for Commercial Music & Sound Branding in 2023. His ears have been lent to the likes of Mercedes Benz, MasterCard, Splice, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Kraft Foods, and Deloitte among others.
The name Icarus Moth is an adept reflection of both that innate ear, so drawn to sound, and a human ambition to educate said ear.
Driven by a quest for new inspirations, Icarus Moth offers a unique collection of influences and imaginations, that not only captivates but also invites listeners to a world of new possibilities, so that they, too, can be drawn to light.
