PENNY DIVING – “STELLA”
SINGLE (2017)
Independent
November 29, 2017
Penny Diving have released their new single Stella, a first taste of the quartet’s upcoming music: a rich palette of distorted guitars, droning keys, a driving rhythm section and mantra-like melodies. The group binds post-punk, shoegaze and dream pop influences to create an introspective and angular indie rock.
Born from the embryonic union of twin sisters Chantal and Kathleen Ambridge (formerly The Muscadettes), enhanced by Thomas Augustin (ex-Malajube) and rounded out by their longtime friend Jonathan Lafrance, the music of Penny Diving marks a significant departure from the sunny vibes that radiated from The Muscadettes’ surf-rock.

“The writing process is intuitive and telepathic almost, and by being this close to one another, it can only enhance the creative output. With “Stella” the pieces quickly fell together, out of the sky and into my lap. We wanted the video to portray dreamlike visions, because I think a lot of processing happens in dreams, in your subconscious, and if you can somehow tap into that, you can tap into the bigger picture. Bridging the gap between the tangible and intangible.”
