Ahead of a pair of Ontario dates with Donovan Woods, ONTARIANS release the official video for “Baby’s On A Bike,” a standout track from their 2024 sophomore album More How It Is. The video premiered this morning on Americana UK. The group, performing as an acoustic trio, will share the stage with Donovan this Friday, March 7th for a sold-out show in Clarksburg, followed by a performance in Aurora at the stunning Aurora Town Square on Saturday, March 8th. The full band has a run of summer festivals coming up – including Four Winds Music Fest and Go North Music Festival. Details can be found below and at www.ontariansofficial.ca.
“Baby’s On A Bike” was conceived during a creative retreat in Pancake Bay near Sault Ste. Marie, ON, as co-writers Craig Smith and Frank Deresti began working on a new batch of songs that would later become More How It Is. The song was specifically written in the aftermath of the pandemic, as the world grappled with how to return to “normal” life. While there was hope that people might emerge from isolation with a renewed focus on slowing down and appreciating the little things, Smith and Deresti noticed a growing sense of urgency returning. The song’s whimsical lyrics serve as a tongue-in-cheek commentary on society’s endless pursuit of progress and the distractions that come with it. Lines like “Baby’s on a bike, bike is on a spaceship, spaceship in the air, we’re making good time” capture the chaotic, yet familiar, pace of modern life, while the lyrics “fill your eyes with new distractions, read the pictures for the captions” poke fun at our inability to sit still and be present.
The song’s bridge offers some simple, timeless advice: “love well, live long,” before quickly revving up again with “run with it before it’s gone,” keeping the tempo light-hearted yet introspective.
Director Kim Zayac, who brought the song to life visually, reflects: “Shooting and editing the video for ‘Baby’s On A Bike’ was a fun experience. It’s a killer tune, and I feel honoured to be able to play a small part in the project. We’re making good time. Indeed.”
