NOBRO TURN THE DIAL UP WITH NEW SINGLE “GIRLS LIKE US” | TOUR DATES

JUNO Award-winning Montreal punk outfit NOBRO are turning the dial all the way up with “Girls Like Us,” an anthem that flips a middle finger at the misogynistic machine that is capitalism – a system rigged to keep everyone losing. “It’s especially hard for women, queer people, people of colour, and artists to ‘make it’ in the world we live in,” says Kathryn McCaughey, lead singer of NOBRO.

NOBRO have made their name with riotous, liberatory party-punk mayhem and middle fingers to the world. That infectious, rebellious energy – paired with their hard-hitting, shredding tunes – is what earned the Montreal band the JUNO Award for Rock Album of the Year in 2025.

The song was born out of a heated exchange at the bar where McCaughey works, when a successful businessman informed her that “women have all the earning power because of their beauty.” Already carrying the mounting pressure of being an artist, and trying to keep a music career alive while working other jobs to make it happen, McCaughey funnelled that fury into “Girls Like Us.”

Her cathartic snarl of a chorus, “Never gonna get it when you want it so bad… ’cause girls like us can’t win like you”, captures the whiplash of grinding to build something for yourself while men insist you already hold all the cards. But nobody wins a rigged game – women and artists just lose loudest, and the man that’s convinced he’s on top is losing too, he just doesn’t see it. “We’re all pawns in the game”.

NOBRO dedicates this song to Susan Moss – a foundational member of the Montreal music community, a celebrated concert photographer, and a dear friend of the band, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. “She’s just a girl like us,” McCaughey says. “A girl who tried to make a name for herself in this world, who lived unconventionally – but those who live unconventionally live large and love the hardest.”
