Hermanos Gutiérrez, the Swiss-Ecuadorian sibling duo of Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez, today released their new album, Los Ojos Del Cóndor, out now on Easy Eye Sound. Produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the 10-track album turns the brothers’ cinematic guitar work toward their South American roots, drawing inspiration from the landscapes and musical traditions of the Andes.

The album arrives alongside a new video for “Alma Mia,” created and animated by Robert Schober (Metallica, Green Day, The Killers), with photography by Jackie Lee Young. The video weaves candid scenes of the brothers recording at Nashville’s Easy Eye Sound studio—alongside engineer M. Allen Parker and studio musicians including organist Mike Rojas and percussionist Sam Bacco—with snapshots of Andean landscapes, people and culture, connecting the making of the album to the region that inspired it.

“We had the honor of working again with incredible studio musicians,” Estevan says. “We told them our vision and the feeling of flying with a condor but, at the same time, we also had this train ride feeling that we wanted to integrate into the whole album, because each album is a journey.”

That journey reflects the brothers’ family history, from their mother’s native Ecuador to their great-grandfather’s Peruvian heritage. Drawing on the vast geography of the Andes, the album weaves together Latin sounds, surf, western flourishes and melancholia with new textures inspired by Argentinean milonga, Peruvian-Colombian cumbia and the traditional sounds of the Andean region. “This is a love letter to South America,” Alejandro says of the album. “What we want to do with this record is to invite people to come on another journey with us, this time through the Andes and to create a curiosity for this culture and for this part of the world.” Several tracks on the album are connected by a recurring musical motif, sometimes emerging through guitar and elsewhere through organ, creating a sense of movement and continuity across the record.

At the heart of those arrangements are the brothers’ interwoven guitars, with Estevan playing the entire record on the nylon guitar his father gave him at age eight. Alejandro introduces the charango to Hermanos Gutiérrez’s sound, playing the Andean string instrument across several tracks. “It was a very intentional decision to introduce this guitar that has its origins in the Andean region of South America,” he explains. “We felt it would be a wonderful layer to add to the intros and within the songs to give the album a distinctive feeling—more earthy and organic than the records we’ve done in the past.”

Named for the mountain range at the heart of the album’s inspiration, “Los Andes” channels its scale and stillness through the brothers’ cinematic interplay of guitar and lap steel.

Los Ojos Del Cóndor reunites the brothers with Auerbach, who also produced 2022’s breakout El Bueno Y El Malo and 2024’s Sonido Cósmico, both of which were critically acclaimed. El Bueno Y El Malo earned the brothers a Tiny Desk concert, a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2023 Americana Music Honors & Awards and a spot on NPR’s Top Latin Albums of the year. Sonido Cósmico brought them to Jimmy Kimmel Live! for their national television debut, with The New York Times’ T Magazine calling their music “instrumental guitarscapes that sound like a psychedelic spaghetti western” and Variety pointing to its “intricacy and sly brilliance.”

Hermanos Gutiérrez are currently on the North American leg of their headlining “Los Ojos Del Cóndor” Tour, with Y La Bamba supporting on select dates, along with additional shows with Jack Johnson, including two nights at the Hollywood Bowl. The shows with Johnson follow the brothers’ collaboration with him on the score for SURFILMUSIC, a documentary tracing his journey from surfer to filmmaker to musician. The brothers then head back to Europe for a winter run through the end of the year, with Gaby Moreno supporting on select dates.
