Teen rock trio Thunder Queens are one month away from the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album, Deep Below, out September 24 via Victory Pool Records. Following an exciting summer of festival performances, including recent sets at Paris Drinks Fest and the NXNE Stage at Toronto’s CNE this past weekend, the band today shares their latest single, “Bluebells.”  A catchy, emotionally charged track about getting lost and the journey of finding your way back to yourself, “Bluebells” offers another glimpse into the world of Deep Below.

Comprised of longtime friends Lola Good (vocals, drums), Violet Bruneel (vocals, electric guitar), and Clara Magnan (bass), Thunder Queens wrote “Bluebells” over the course of just a few days, finishing the lyrics right before recording the song. “Recording ‘Bluebells’ was a very fun and different kind of creative process compared to all the other songs, since we wrote it almost completely the night before we headed into the studio to record it with Dave Schiffman,” shares the band. “There was little time to overthink the lyrics, and we were excited to get it recorded.”

Deep Below explores change, growing up, friendship, loss, moving forward, and the realization that sometimes you have to let go of things you thought would always be part of you. “We wrote every song together, using our old voice memos, riffs we had saved up, and lyrics about real feelings we were trying to figure out,” shares the band. “Sonically, the record is the heaviest and most emotional thing we’ve ever made, but it still has the parts of Thunder Queens that feel most like us: big vocal harmonies, loud guitars, heavy drumming, songs that were written to be played live. Deep Below is a record about finding yourself, and all the weird, heavy, exciting feelings that come along with that.”

At a time when listeners often experience music one single at a time, Thunder Queens hope fans, both old and new, will immerse themselves in Deep Below as a complete album. Every song contributes to a larger story, inviting listeners to fully experience the world the band has created and the emotional journey at its heart.

Thunder Queens recorded the majority of Deep Below at Dream House Studios with Dave Schiffman. The eleven-song album features the title track “Deep Below,” and “Wait.” It will also include the previously released songs “Teenage Years” and “Birds On A Wire,” which were remastered by Ryan Dahle and co-produced by the band and JUNO-nominated producer Thom D’Arcy.

Ahead of the album’s release, the trio will perform at St-Roch XP, London’s Punk Rock Flea Fest, and on a run of dates with Cancer Bats, as well as opening for 54-40 in Toronto, with more shows to be announced.

With complex feelings as a foundational element to Deep Below, in the writing/recording process as well as the live performances, Thunder Queens are ready to be the catalyst in their own real life show. The timing is fitting. As Thunder Queens step into the most ambitious chapter of their career so far, cameras have been documenting it all. The feature documentary Thunder Queens, executive produced by Tegan & Sara and currently in post-production, captures the years leading up to Deep Below.
