ALICE MERTON RELEASES “LASH OUT” SINGLE
NO ROOTS EP OUT NOW VIA MOM + POP MUSIC | US TOUR DATES WITH VANCE JOY ANNOUNCED
Alice Merton has released a new single entitled “Lash Out”. It is out today along with her ‘No Roots’ EP which features the hit title track along with three other brand new tracks. This occurs just weeks after she held #1 for 2 consecutive weeks at alternative radio and held it for 8 weeks in Canada. She also has cracked the Top 30 on the pop charts, the Top 15 on Hot AC and entered The Billboard Hot 100. “No Roots” is synced in a Mini Cooper commercial that will be running on TV/Radio for the next 6 months. On 2/9/2018 Alice made her primetime television debut performing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. Earlier this year “No Roots” reached #1 on the AAA charts 5 weeks in a row. Recently she was featured in Rolling Stone’s “One To Watch” as well as Billboard’s ‘Chartbreaker’ section which has previously featured artists such as Cardi B & Khalid. The up and coming singer-songwriter signed to Mom + Pop Music last year and earned a major feature on Billboard, which is online now. In May, Alice will go on tour with Vance Joy. Dates are below. Her single “No Roots” has already captured an immense amount of attention with over 160 million global plays on Spotify and YouTube.
After the phenomenal success of her “No Roots” debut single, Alice Merton gets wordy with her new single “Lash Out”. “No Roots” also became a global smash with a catchy hook, as the 24-year-old cosmopolitan revealed her soul as a wanderer between continents. Millions could identify with the question of where their own roots actually lie. “Lash Out” picks up on the theme of songwriting from the first-person perspective and ignites the burning desire to awaken one’s own power, one’s own voice, at first hearing.
“Lash Out was similar to No Roots,” recalls Alice Merton. “Being an artist and a human in this world always means confronting people who make you feel like you have to act according to their rules. Like most people, I wanted and still want to live by my own rules. The idea, or, if you like, the need, to write and record ‘Lash Out’ was born of a feeling within me. “
With driving beats and an immediately catchy chorus, “Lash Out” is an empowerment song for the many people around the world who think they cannot raise their own voices. But letting go of control and of pent up frustration is not enough. You have to know what you actually want to fight for, and that comes from deep down inside each of us. No longer holding back, but self-confidently answering your own needs – that’s what “Lash Out” is all about.
“Lash Out” was written by Alice Merton with GRAMMY-nominated US songwriter Dave Bassett (Vance Joy, Elle King). Production was done by “No Roots” producer Nico Rebscher, together with Dave Bassett. The GRAMMY winner Serban Ghenea (Lorde, Bruno Mars, Pink) is responsible for the “Lash Out”-Mix finesses.
Alice Merton was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1993 as the daughter of a British father and a German mother. Her father’s job first took the family to Canada, then across the border to North America and finally back to Europe. Alice studied composition and songwriting at the Pop akademie in Mannheim. By chance she met her manager at a bus stop there, with whom she founded her own label Paper Plane Records International. Their debut single,”No Roots”, has sold over 1 million and been streamed well over 130 million times. The song attained Platinum status in Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland. The single reached Gold status in Poland and Italy. Number 1 on the American Billboard Alternative charts also made Alice Merton’s name across the Atlantic.
