PACIFICO – “THE RED EYE/WE WON’T GO BACK HERE”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Pacifico is the Atlanta-based band led by Matthew Schwartz.
Previous Pacifico albums and EPs feature many of Schwartz’s heroes on the recordings, including Jason Martin of Starflyer 59, Ronnie Martin of Joy Electric, and Peter Randall (bassist with The Kooks and Adele.)
The new Pacifico EP (out June 3) is called ‘05/’22 EP, a literal reference to the fact that it was started in 2005 and only finished in 2022.
Yes, a lost hard drive in pre-cloud storage days delayed this batch of songs for 17 years! Even the song titles (and press photo of Schwartz) take a “how it started / how it’s going” approach.
For example, the latest single “The Red Eye/We Won’t Go Back Here” (out May 6) which Schwartz says, “deals with the lack of empathy and care we have for others in our society.”
Sonically and lyrically, the song reflects Schwartz’s variety of rock and songwriting influences, from Radiohead and Weezer to Jeff Buckley and Jeremy Enigk.
ARTIST QUOTE:
“This song was written in 2005. The drums were recorded then, too. Everything else in this recording, including the lyrics, were written and recorded during the pandemic. This song deals with the lack of empathy and care we have for others in our society lately. Through this pandemic and current social and political situation, I see so much hate and discord. This song is about putting yourself in other shoes, caring for and loving others, even when you disagree.” ~Matthew Schwartz of Pacifico
