EARTHLY REMAINS – “MANUEL”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Earthly Remains is a pandemic-spawned bedroom recording project based out of Toronto. The vibes are decidedly slacker, slowcore and lo-fi in nature (ala Alex G, Duster, Pavement, Yo La Tengo) with occasional elements of dream-pop and shoegaze thrown in to provide texture and atmosphere.
ARTIST QUOTE
“”Manuel” is a song about my old, creaky, dilapidated apartment. The walls were crooked, the floors were slanting, and the whole structure must have been made of cardboard. Manuel was the landlord. He lived across the street, kept a watchful eye, and seemingly had an endless supply of ancient appliances – each one somehow even older than the broken one he was replacing. Despite all that, the song reflects fondly on the many years spent there. The place was in the heart of the west-end, it was full of sunlight, and the rent was dirt cheap.”
