CAROLINE BLIND – “HEAVEN”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
“Heaven” is Caroline Blind’s third single off her upcoming album, The Spell Between due out in February. For this track, the former Sunshine Blind vocalist recruited a dream team: Rich W., guitarist of The Wake, Switchblade Symphony’s George Earth, and guitarist David Wolfenden of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, whose involvement is not a mere coincidence, since “Heaven”is an acoustic remake of an iconic song originally written by Wolfenden’s band.
This song is not the first cover that Blind released, last year she shared a heartfelt version of Swans’ “God Damn the Sun”. And indeed her upcoming album, The Spell Between is a gothic love letter to some songs that inspired Caroline throughout her career, combining covers, reworked Sunshine Blind tracks, and original new material.
“Heaven” stands out. When Caroline Blind decided to pick up a guitar again and start playing some acoustic shows, after many years away, certain songs sprang to mind immediately, to convey the mood that the acoustic guitars evoked. Ballads, mostly, of course but from an era, for her, where it all began… around 1990.. back to the songs that inspired her to pick up a guitar in the first place. “Heaven”, by Red Lorry Yellow Lorry was one of the first she attempted.
Artist Quote
“The chance to revisit the music you loved growing up is always a pleasure. It brings back all the memories you associate with a certain song; a certain time, a place, a person… it can be uplifting, devastating, or bittersweet. The experiences you’ve had with a song over the years grow and change like any relationship… New perspectives are seen, new memories formed, forming a bigger picture, and maybe eventually, even coming full circle.” ~Caroline Blind
