BURN KIT – “LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW AT YOU “
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Today we have the pleasure of premiering the new video from Boston alt-rock outfit Burn Kit, whose single “Looking Through The Window At You” is a moshpit-perfect prog-hued alternative rock anthem. One side of Burn Kit’s ‘Split’ 7″, a double A-side single with Chicago band Turquoise. Each of these tracks is exclusive to this one-off limited edition black vinyl with 270 copies pressed.
Burn Kit is a five-piece comprised of vocalist Valentino Valpa, guitarist Joshua Sawhill, guitarist Frank Nordaby, drummer Andrew Mattern with bass duties split between Padraic McGuire (touring) and Christopher Belmonte (studio recordings).
“Looking Through The Window At You” marries Valpa’s powerful magnetism with a sonic palette reminiscent of a furious cross between New Model Army and the Pixies. Exploring the profound sense of isolation that exists even amidst connection, this song delves into the unspoken thoughts and hidden selves we all maintain. With commanding vocals leading the charge over a foundation of stellar musicianship, this song is magnetic piece of music—a vibrant and authentic.
Valpa says that this composition “confronts the always-known locked door that exists within all human minds. The fact that no person truly fully knows one another. There are always things we are thinking, things we won’t say and appearances we keep up admist our automation of modern daily living.”
Formed in 2024, Burn Kit’s music channels a hardcore energy with a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshing. They wasted no time, their first year seeing them complete five tours involving 138 shows in 38 different countries, not to mention the recording of Demo Tape, a handful of singles and their most recently-release – their debut Fallen Rose EP.
Turquoise’s contribution to this double A-side single is ‘Oblivious’, a driving indie-punk anthem that channels a 90s alt-rock vibe sprinkled with a Hüsker Dü influence. Effortlessly striking a balance between muscled-up hardcore indebted riffs and soothing, textured melodies, “Oblivious” appears as the band gears up for an album release. With Burn Kit also approaching their sophomore EP, the stars aligned perfectly to offer these two one-off tracks to their growing audience.
Turquoise’s contribution is a fantastic counterpoint, an indie-rock gem that would have been a massive thrill for college rock fans in any decade from the ’80s to the present day. It’s a driving, no-frills anthem that perfectly captures the spirit of 90s alt-rock and serves as an exciting preview of what’s to come from this promising Chicago outfit.
The seed for this 7” release was planted when Turquoise played a Chicago hardcore basement show with Burn Kit vocalist Valentino’s previous project. The two stayed in touch and once Burn Kit formed, this idea could finally become reality. Recorded and mixed in March-April 2025 by Ryan Stack at The Electric Cave in Portsmouth, NH, ‘Looking Through The Window At You’ was engineered by Marc McElroy and mastered by Dan Coutant at Sunroom Audio in Cornwall, NY.
Burn Kit’s live shows are a raw, unfiltered force of nature, a spectacle of rock and roll intensity that demands to be seen. Frontman Valentino Valpa’s antics are the stuff of legend, as he regularly scales venues, climbs trees, or disappears into the crowd, mic in hand. His unpredictable energy turns every performance into an immersive event, creating a unique and visceral bond with a devoted audience. This isn’t just about the music; it’s about a band’s entire aesthetic and their legacy of creating a truly authentic, shared human experience.
The ‘Split’ 7″ is available on vinyl via Bandcamp. ‘Looking Through The Window At You’ itself can be found there digitally, as well as music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
