JML ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS THE POWER OF NETWORKING FEATURING GHOSTFACE KILLAH, RAEKWON, RICO LOVE, MURDA BEATZ, BANX & RANX
HOTEL X, TORONTO
JML Entertainment hosted The Power Of Networking conference at Toronto’s Hotel X. The panel focused on the ideas of networking and collaboration amid the modern musical landscape while highlighting the creative process. Speaking at the event was a series of hip-hop and pop icons including producers Murda Beatz (Travis Scott “Butterfly Effect”, Gucci Mane “Back On Road”, Drake “Nice For What”), Rico Love (Usher “Boyfriend”), Illmind (Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, Dr. Dre), and Banx & Ranx, alongside Canadian industry professionals Houtan Hodania (SOCAN), Jordan Powley (The Feldman Agency), and Shawn Barron (Ezmny). Most notably, however, was the addition of Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon and Ghostface Killah.
The focus of the day was to host an event that brought artists, producers, and industry figures together for the purpose of building relations and community. Not only was this a series of seminars, but it also provided a great deal of time for people to mix and mingle between conferences. Networking and collaboration were built into the foundational energy of this event and JML Entertainment succeeded in hosting such an opportunity at the stunning Hotel X.
At the centre of the event was a trio of panels. The first featured an array of Canadian industry figures. With a focus on how to approach various institutions, this panel was effective and informative, granting artists and producers the chance to hear from an assortment of representatives from the likes of SOCAN, Coalition Music, The Feldman Agency, and Amazon Music. The following showcase featured a conversation with Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, allowing for the two hip-hop legends to share anecdotes of the value that networking has had in their careers. Perhaps the most notable moment of the day was hearing Ghostface Killah reflect on wanted to connect with RZA early on so, in an effort to find common ground to build an organic, non-transactional relationship, they bonded over a mutual love for martial arts films. The final panel featured a wide collection mostly consisting of producers, including Murda Beatz, Banx & Ranx, Illmind, and Slow Mike. Their conversation, while centered around similar ideas shared throughout the day, was accessible for both people at the beginning of their career, along with those who have been at it for years as they dug deep into the relationship between the artist, the producer, and the industry. All in all, JML Entertainment truly pulled out all the stops for The Power Of Networking. Through such a grand affair, JML are cultivating a strong sense of artistic community around their identity in a meaningful way. The conversations were insightful and included valuable ideas from experts of their craft and field – so much so that you will certainly not want to miss their next industry event.
