The second release by Son Lux in 2026, which comes very quickly (about one week) since their previous album, Out Into. But, as one can see, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a very different album for a very different audience. This is the latest in Son Lux’s (Rafiq Bhatia, Ian Chang, and Ryan Lott) original soundtrack work. Lott has also composed and recorded several soundtracks. This one follows the very successful Everything Everywhere All at Once (which earned them an Academy Award nomination) in 2022 and 2025’s Thunderbolts*. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother is, for the most part, an instrumental album serving as the music for the thriller, which made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The question is always can a soundtrack accomplish two purposes? First, does the music fit in with the film and help to create an atmosphere? And second, can it stand on its own two legs without the visuals of the film? Not having seen the film, I cannot comment on the first point. However, not having seen the film and having listened to the album, the music does stand up on its own as its own release and record. The music ranges from excitement to melancholy to sad to more pop oriented.

Son Lux is excellent at layering music and sound in their songs. Choirs float in and out, voices come and go, and instruments are excellently played. A song such as “Grace,” which borders on ambient, lulls the listener into a very false sense of calm, just before all hell breaks loose with “Mercy.” The title track follows, with fantastic vocals and the main theme. These three songs alone cover a whole range in about seven minutes. The entire album is like this, taking control of your emotions as the album unfolds. This all leads to the wonderful “Now I’m Listening”, which does feature vocals and is much more a traditional Son Lux song than the rest of the other. It is a beautiful song with a strong melody and wonderful vocal arrangements.

The music is moody and electronic based. It is, after a soundtrack, designed to provide music for scenes and to tap into your feelings. This is not a traditional rock/pop album, it is a soundtrack. It succeeds, however, as just a listening experience. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is not so much a relaxing listening experience, but it is interesting and features so many sounds and textures that it keeps the listener’s interest throughout. Two albums from Son Lux in one month may seem excessive, but both are very different and both are quite brilliant.
