Say Sue Me
The Last Thing Left
Damnably
Sumi Choi (vocalist, guitarist) and her band Say Sue Me are from Busan, Korea. If that tells you that you would be in for some K-pop on their latest album The Last Thing Left, you’d be right in one aspect. After all, the band is from Korea, isn’t it?
Yet, if you expect BTS-style pop that is so popular worldwide these days you might be in for some disappointment or joy, depending on whether BTS is your kinda thing.
You see, Choi and her band definitely come up with music that is somewhere else – they prefer their music to be a sort of new wave, surf, Stereolab go Sarah Records sound. Oh, and they do such a mash of a sound quite some justice.
Byungkyu Kim on lead guitar, Sumi Choi on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jaeyoung Kim on bass, and Sungwan Lim on drums have immersed themselves in the sounds they love so much that they have made them completely their own and through the 10 tracks here come up with some K-pop/not K-pop that has quite a few brilliant moments no matter what kind of label you want to stick to it.
