SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: VARIOUS ARTISTS – PAY IT ALL BACK VOL. 8

On-U Sound

Various Artists
Pay It All Back Vol. 8
On-U Sound

Master producer/songwriter/artist Adrian Sherwood has been behind all things On-U Sound since 1979, and since then he and the artists he has worked with have been on the cutting edge of experimentation with reggae, dub, electronics and any other musical form that could fit in within the concept.

Don’t be fooled by ‘only’ volume 8 in On-U sound’s constantly running Pay It All Back series. Sherwood always takes the time to select the best choices from his production line, including material that is exclusive to the specific Pay It All Back volume.

As is usually the case, along with Sherwood’s usual suspects like African Headcharge, Tackhead, Horace Andy, and late dub legend Lee Scratch Perry, Sherwood always comes up with a new or not so widely known artists that deserve special mention in this case excellent singer Rita Morar and Jeb Loy Nichols, a country dub (!?) artist who’s been around for a while but so far didn’t get the recognition he really deserves.

And, again, as is usually the case, Sherwood’s selection is practically impeccable and at 19 tracks simply unmissable.
