PANCHIKO
GINKGO
NETTWERK MUSIC GROUP

At some point, the prime prog rock sound has earned some not so positive connotations and quite a number of artists renowned for the sound started moving into more melody-oriented territory without forsaking musical complexity, with Pink Floyd and ELO first coming to mind. That line of musical thinking was later picked up by the likes of Radiohead and other artists, giving the original prog something of a clean slate. Essentially, such music has turned into something of experimenting ground without instrumental showboating and incorporating elements from everywhere.
That is where the Nottingham UK band comes in with their latest effort Ginkgo. The band that actually made a name for themselves early this decade with a set of 90s demos when the members almost abandoned professional music, now have a detailed, refined sound that doesn’t forsake either melody or complexity and also includes elements from everywhere, including hip hop but fit in so snuggly within the bands main concept that you simply have to marvel what they have achieved here.
