SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MOPAR STARS – OFFICIAL RESEARCHERS OF THE NJ DEVIL

Mopar Stars

MOPAR STARS
OFFICIAL RESEARCHERS OF THE NJ DEVIL
K RECORDS/PERENNIAL RECORDS

You would probably need more than ten fingers to count how many times critics have proclaimed the death of power pop – you know that rock genre, where melody, harmony vocals, and crunchy guitars dominate, yet that sound is not only still around but seems to be thriving at the moment?

Philadelphia’s Mopar Stars can squarely be counted among the purveyors of such sound. Having already come up with an EP and a debut album, this trio is sticking to their power pop guns on Official Researchers of the NJ Devil, their latest. And it is all there – good to excellent songwriting focused on a good melody up front, equally great harmonies, and some driving guitars (all the guitars all the time).
You’ve heard it before? Definitely, but that is not the point. Mopar Stars seem to be perfecting that known sound, and they do it oh so well!
