Quite a few listeners will shy away from any type of music that has that pop label somewhere in its description. Yet, there should be no shying away from it, particularly if such an epithet is actually suitable.

Here we come to Swiss quintet Soft Loft and its album Throw the Dice. Yes, this band’s main songwriter and lead singer Jorina Stamm and her crew play pop, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Yet, it might be a bit unfair to call their brand of pop just good – it is that very good to excellent kind of sophisticated pop that covers the complete range there, from prime second phase Fleetwood Mac to even touches picked up from the likes of Steely Dan.

It is a hefty and often hard ground to cover right, but Stamm and the band are able to cover it quite admirably here.
