McKenzie Stubbert
Waiting Room
Curious Music
Making neo-classical music work as pop in a way, seems to be quite popular these days, what with the success of artist/composers like Ludovico Einaudi. Yet, very often, such artists/composers tend to either over-complicate or to simplify their music, missing that balance where it becomes truly attractive to a wider audience.
That is why Waiting Room, the new album from Los Angeles neo-classical composer/artist McKenzie Stubbert is something quite to cherish. Taking cues from newer minimalist composers, neoclassical piano music, and best in film scores, Stubbert comes up with exactly that balance so needed to make classical music elements work as popular music, something any discerning listener will be attracted to.
Complexity runs throughout the 10 instrumental compositions here, but it is neither overstated nor simplified, and don’t be surprised when you hear any of these themes in some upcoming movie that wants to stir the right emotions in the viewer.
