Legacy Of Lovers is really Ryne D. Trevlon, and although there have been singles by him under the name of Ryne D. Trevlon), Calm Cool Connections is Legacy Of Lovers’ debut EP. Although EP is loosely used here, as it is more of an album than an EP as there are nine well-crafted songs in this package. Calm Cool Connections is obviously a very important statement for Trevlon. He uses music to inspire and meditate, and acknowledges that music has the power to change, both internally and the world at large. That doesn’t mean the music is heavy or depressing, quite the opposite.

Trevlon writes very melodic songs that are instantly accessible and likeable. The music comes at you in a very restrained way and comes out of the speakers and embraces the listener. For the most part, the songs are musically upbeat and bring to mind mid-1980s Simple Minds. Again, Trevlon is not copying, but one can hear the influences of the music in which he loves. “So Nice To Get Away” is a great example of the use of mixed influences into a big melting pot and creating something new and original.

Lyrically, this is a very powerful album. It is very personal, and one gets the idea that Trevlon uses music as a form of therapy. He isn’t the first and again, this doesn’t mean it is a difficult album, in fact, it is a very positive album. Trevlon has had his own demons, and that is clear throughout but then he writes a brilliant song like “Thank You For Today, Thank You For Tomorrow”. “Stand up stand up and start believing/Life is full of surprise,” he sings, almost like a mantra. It is moving, emotional and extremely hopeful. A great many songs express hope rather than dwelling on the negative.

Calm Cool Connections is an EP that flows nicely, both musically and lyrically. It also demonstrates the power of music and how it can be used to heal the artist and those who are open to the messages being sent. Trevlon is a very talented writer, has a great voice, and has something to say. Sounds like a great combination to me. With Calm Cool Connections he has created a brilliant debut EP.
