SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: DAVE SMALLEY AND THE BANDOLEROS – IGNITED

Dave Smalley And The Bandoleros

Dave Smalley And The Bandoleros
Ignited
Little Rocket Records

Dave Smalley and the Bandoleros have released their second album, a five-song EP of feel-good punk songs. Following the trend of their 2018 release, Join The Outsiders, they create a collection of uplifting anthems that has them up there with the punk rock greats.

With DYS, Dag Nasty, ALL, and Down By Law under his belt, Smalley has been in the punk/hardcore scene for decades. After years of putting out quality punk, he knows what he’s doing. With The Bandoleros behind him, Ignited is a worthy addition to his punk-rock legacy.

The Bandoleros, hailing from Spain, are made up of experienced members of G.A.S. Drummers, among other long-standing punk bands. They perfect the anthemic punk style with ripping toney bass, galloping drums, and satisfying guitar leads. Overlaying the quality instrumentation are Smalley’s raspy-yet-melodic vocals.

“Punk Rock Battle Cry” sums up the feel of the album: “It’s my punk rock battle cry/Just think it free/Even when the cool people don’t agree.” Heartfelt and uniting, Ignited is everything a contemporary punk EP should be.
