ABIGAIL LAPELL
ANNIVERSARY & MORE SONGS ABOUT LOVE
OUTSIDE MUSIC

If you are a close follower of Spill Magazine you’ve surely noticed that there are quite a few reviews of Abigail Lapell’s albums around here, and there is quite a number of reasons for that. Lapell seems to keep coming UP with some substantial music that boasts both strong to excellent songwriting and her equally excellent performances. No wonder that the original version of the Anniversary album brought her a JUNO award nomination.
Now, that album gets an extended version with More Songs About Love, an aptly titled edition recorded by Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers at 200-year-old St Mark’s Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. With all the quality Lapell brings to the proceedings, Dekker adds that Great Lake Swimmers subtle echo touch to the proceedings, giving Lapell, her songs and her covers that extra touch the acoustic music needs sometimes. Still, it is Lapell in the main role and in full force of her talent.
