PUBLIC DISCO PORCH – THE GOSPEL OF YORK
A Spill Exclusive Album Premiere
Public Disco Porch is the collaborative project of Chicago-based musician Spencer McCreary. Formed in 2016 on a Grecian rooftop, the project aims to focus attention more on the creative process of recording rather than a defined end point or product. The songs tell tales of moments and people, meandering through questions and lessons of self discovering, worship and what it means to simply be. The Gospel of York is a record revolving around an exploration of home – of leaving, longing, and returning. The imperfections, 2am saxophone improvisations, tape scratches, distorted drums and layered vocals that don’t always line up just right are totems to how it feels to go inward, intentionally trying to get lost. Performed by a host of midwestern artists that are scattered throughout the credits, this debut album speaks to friendship + family constantly stretching to understand that the only way to not feel broken is by giving love, listening and standing alongside the other pals that you have.
Artist Quote
“Sometimes the best thing you can do to a recording is to see how close you can get to ruining it. Then having someone else give ‘er a go.”
