Rendezvous
Another Round Please
Rough Trade / Moot Records
I went on journeys in this first LP from Redezvous. A notable one; The Never Ending Story meets Total Recall slash a Bond flic in “The Murf.” Doesn’t make sense? Listen and watch. A smattering of ’80s riffs over the album, some sound familiar? Name that riff. But groovy, baby! Solid bass lines throughout. All… instruments. Surprised? I was. I still am. Are there ANY synths? It’s tough to tell. Very clean sound. Some songs called to ear The Prodigy circa 1993, pre-Fat Of the Land of course. If Hackers was rebooted today, Rendezvous would be on the soundtrack, hands down! No! “Hands Up”!
Track titles were important to note on this album. I had to look up “Adagio” – it means the music should be ‘played slowly’… “Adagio For Tiesto.” Makes sense now. The melody is arresting from the first track chained to the last. I personally could have sprung a lyricist for additional guidance on Rendezvous’ intended journey. Did you read my second sentence? Only a couple verses here and there would have helped immensely. I may have forked right instead of left. Just saying. Excellent tones from the instruments. I’m still trying to figure how they accomplished it. Refreshingly simple for Electronic (ahem … not Electronic) music these days. Nintendo effects splashed here and there. Loved it! The climax in the first single “C Sharp” had me rewind and call my dealer! Not sold on the dance factor of the LP, but I would absolutely recommend it for buzzing around the house. The perfect montage for cleaning! I’d retweet.
