JIM DAN DEE – “MADMAN MONAGHAN”
INDEPENDENT
Southern Ontario’s raucous quartet Jim Dan Dee is known for its blues-infused songs of love, lust and loneliness, but is far from a typical blues band. A dose of Motown funk and soul, with enough gritty rock & roll added to keep the listener’s heart pumping. Jim Dan Dee, which takes its name from the expression “everything is just Jim Dandy,” is a foursome of survivors, thrivers, and prolific creatives.
Featuring veteran musicians Jim “Dan Dee” Stefanuk on vocals/guitars, Bobby Sewerynek on saxophone, Dwayne Lau on bass, and Shawn Royal on drums, this Southern Ontario-based four-piece has a tight, interlocked sound honed by over a decade of live shows and festivals.
Jim Dan Dee’s new single “Madman Monaghan” pays tribute to a Canadian blues-radio icon, Patrick Monaghan. Highlighting his earlier days as an amateur boxer along with some youthful hijinks, Pat, who passed away July 25, 2023, was a personal friend of the band and left an indelible mark on the Canadian Blues scene. He received numerous awards and accolades, including being named Blues Booster of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards in early 2023. Pat is survived by his partner Christine and the annual festival he championed, The Haliburton Highlands Blues Festival.
“This single isn’t just a tribute, it’s an homage to the indomitable and sometimes rascally spirit of our friend Pat Monaghan’, says Jim Stefanuk. “It’s a real rocker and we think he would’ve loved it, and hope you will too.”
