PERRY BLAKE
DEATH OF A SOCIETY GIRL
MOOCHIN’ ABOUT RECORDS
There is a tragic coincidence that came a week or so before Irish singer-songwriter was to release his latest album Death of a Society Girl, which celebrates his 20 years as a recording artist – the passing away of French legend Francoise Hardy, with whom Blake had a number of successful collaborations.
Blake’s music always had that melancholic, yearning element engrained within his music and vocal delivery, that was so suited for Hardy, as well as other collaborators he has worked in the past, combined with his often-surrealist lyrics that fitted his music so well.
Yet with all the collaborations, it was always Blake that led the way on his solo recordings, with all his musical qualities coming to the fullest here – from delicate songwriting to detailed, textured arrangements, making Death of a Society Girl such a musical treat. Noted for the end of the year list.
