2023 KENSINGTON MARKET JAZZ FESTIVAL

The Kensington Market Jazz Festival celebrated its 8^th year of existence in Toronto’s vibrant Kensington Market this month.

The Shuffle Demons and The Heavyweights Brass Band opened the fest with a street march, to be soon followed up with a lineup of 200 talented musicians performing in 92 shows over the course of the weekend. The festival filled two days with fun, great performances, cool jazz melodies, talented artists, a dedicated behind-the-scenes team that amassed over100 volunteers, and a beautiful admiring audience.

Founder and Director Molly Johnson (born and raised in Kensington Market) is a singer-songwriter and philanthropist in her own right. She started The Kensington Market Jazz Festival to offer the city a local, grassroots JAZZ festival reflecting the market’s rich cultural tapestry.

The Kensington Market Jazz Festival mission is “to celebrate and elevate the vibrant jazz culture of Toronto, fostering community connection and championing local talent in the heart of the city’s heritage district” — and they succeeded greatly in doing so.

Overall, the Kensington Market Jazz Festival proved itself once again to be an energetic and magical weekend for many to remember.
