SECOND SUMMER FESTIVAL – DAY 2

Day two of Second Summer Festival picked up right where it left off, with Concrete Vehicles playing their second and final show of the festival at the Horseshoe Tavern. This band is exhilarating to watch and it’s obvious they have a blast performing, with Kenan Gray jumping around on stage with his keyboard in hand, and lead singer Ben Lock opening the pit before jumping in and moshing with the audience, their performance is just as hectic as their music is. They played plenty of tunes off their 2025 album Station On The hill such as “Dissolution Use,” and “The Picture,” and played their noisy 2026 singles “Text Stop” and “Cut Ties.” They ended their set with the heavy hitting, “Now In Vacuum.”

Los Angeles band Clarion came on next, fresh off a couple European shows with Concrete Vehicles, the shoegaze band played songs off their two EPs, Blue Fairy and Clarion. Saya Oliva’s singing during the chorus of “Inertia” is catchy to the point of being addicting, and her vocals float perfectly over the grungy distorted guitar playing. The 3-piece outfit went on to play “Taxidermy” and “Tetra” before going out with a bang playing the loudest song on their setlist “American Girl.”

PISS closed out the night at Lee’s Palace. This was a highly anticipated show with plenty of eager fans waiting to hear the newly signed Sub Pop band from Vancouver. Their set was short but potent, with the group playing unreleased material from their upcoming album you made me / skin on linen including lead single “time loop at hot slit.” Their show was a hefty dose of hardcore noise with pounding guitar, and unhinged vocals by Taylor Zantingh. Their debut album comes out on October 30. What an exciting time to be a Canadian punk fan!
