Alien Eyelid
Bronze Star
Tall Texan Records
For a band hailing from Texas, it might seem simple to travel in the sometimes clear, sometimes murky waters of roots rock/Americana. Whether those waters go clear or stay murky certainly depends on how you understand and navigate your musical influences and how much of yourself you invest into such music.
Alien Eyelid and their latest album Bronze Star swim exactly in these waters, and they swim quite well in them.
The band includes ex-members of Buxton and Lower Dens, the names which might not mean much to a wider audience, but that previous experience seems to have given the right touch(es) to these guys, as their walk along the lines of The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Neil Young et al, is a very good walk, confident, assured and actually quite personal, something that makes their music work.
The album might bear a bronze star in its title, but surely deserves a silver one, for now.
