SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MARIANAS TRENCH – HAVEN

Marianas Trench

MARIANAS TRENCH
HAVEN
604 RECORDS

Marianas Trench has long been a powerhouse of musical genius, and their new album only solidifies their reputation as what I would claim, one of the most talented bands in the music scene. While their sound has evolved in some ways, they remain the Marianas Trench we all know and love.

Fans will undoubtedly appreciate the rich storytelling that defines this album. Marianas Trench has a natural gift for weaving narratives through their music, and it’s on full display here. The album is crafted like a journey, inviting listeners to become a part of the experience. Their ability to paint vivid imagery with both music and lyrics is what sets this album apart.

Listeners are in for a treat with this album, as it showcases some of Marianas Trench’s most iconic elements. Josh Ramsay’s signature raspy scream makes a powerful appearance, adding that raw emotion fans have come to love. The band’s trademark harmonizing vocals are on full display, creating those lush, layered soundscapes that elevate every track. And for the attentive listener, there’s an extra reward—subtle nods to past albums, with familiar melodies blended seamlessly into the new material. These callbacks not only honor the band’s musical legacy but also create a deeper connection for long-time fans.

In true Marianas Trench style, the album closes with an 8-minute epic that serves as the perfect finale. “Haven”, the title track on the album, is a fitting end to a seamless album. Its quiet, soft start gradually builds into what can only be described as a masterfully crafted musical experience.

Mercedes is a Toronto native with a huge passion for photography and creative writing. Her love of being behind the lens has given her the opportunity to capture captivating images for national campaigns and earned her publications in renowned international magazines. Beyond her photographic pursuits, Mercedes is an avid attendee of concerts, immersing herself in the live music experience and documenting it from the photo pit. While her musical tastes lean towards rock alternative, she also embarks on an indie rock journey, and on a day to day, she also indulges in coffee to an extent that rivals the Gilmore Girls, while her Italian heritage instilled a lifelong love for pasta, meatballs, and pizza (as long as it’s gluten-free and vegan).
