Since Nick Drake’s enigmatic artistic figure left us too early, many other singer/songwriters, both male and female, were compared to his entirely individual musical and lyrical concepts. Yet, only a few of those artists really deserved such a lofty comparison.

Now, here’s one artist that certainly does deserve it, not as a copycat of either Drake’s music or lyrics, but as an artist that embodies the same or similar musical and lyrical concepts and a very specific individual touch. It is Brooklyn’s Eliza Edens and her sophomore album, We’ll Become the Flowers.

In essence, it is all there, a detailed creative musical touch that draws its inspirations from folk, roots, blues, jazz, classical, you name it. At the same time, Edens has that sensitive, sophisticated lyrical touch that is quite intimate, but escapes mundane at every step. At the same time, Edens’ voice has that cool vibe that is a cross between Drake himself and Karen Dalton, the folk/roots heroine of the 60s.

All of those elements in Edens’ music combine to create quite an enchanting experience that deserves to be heard.
