SHUTUPS – “100PUNK”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Today, the Oakland based indie punk band Shutups have shared the music video for “100Punk”, the third single from their forthcoming album titled I can’t eat nearly as much as I want to vomit. With an indie punk style that blends power pop melodies and genre experimentation with a thrashing energy, each single from this new LP is different than the last. “100Punk” is the most danceable and streamlined track of the bunch, marrying a surfy guitar riff that wouldn’t sound out of place on a track from The Strokes or The Voidz with a dance punk groove and an alto sax part played by Stan Zest. This new album was mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated producer Jack Shirley (Jeff Rosenstock, Deafheaven) and will be released in full via legendary indie label Kill Rock Stars on October 21st.
ARTIST QUOTE
Lead singer Hadely Davis cites “100Punk” as “the first song I wrote that I thought gave me a good enough reason to start a band“, with drummer Mia Wood echoing that they “have been dying to release this one for so long, but the years of refinement has really strengthened the track in this final form. It’s so different from the other singles and most of our songs generally”. Meanwhile, bassist Bud Armeinti said about the song, “This one’s a “Bud-Certified banger“.
