I have said it before, and I will say it again, writing books about The Beatles is not an easy task these days. It is safe to say that there are thousands of books and magazines dedicated to the band as a whole and their solo members. So, coming up with a new and interesting book about them is just not easy. John M, Borack has succeeded, however, with his new book The Beatles 100: One Hundred Pivotal Moments In Beatles History. It isnβt that there are new and startling facts in the book, because there are not, nor is it a chronological telling of their story. Rather, Borack has picked one hundred important events or stories about The Beatles, together and solo, and listed them.
It is entirely subjective, and that is a great deal of the charm of The Beatles 100: One Hundred Pivotal Moments In Beatles History. Borack, who also wrote the wonderful John Lennon: Life Is What Happens has come up with his own list and his own opinions. The facts are there, as he has done his homework and researched the material thoroughly, but the enjoyable part is his opinions. As you read through, you may not agree with him at all, and in fact often I didnβt but that is what makes it enjoyable.
Borack writes in a very conversational manner. At times, it is almost as if you are chatting with him, which makes it very readable and entertaining. He sticks to facts and his opinions. Thankfully, he does not delve into their personal lives unless it is a pivotal moment, for example Linda McCartneyβs passing. It makes for an annotated, fact-based book.
Overall, this is an excellent book for fans and for those who wish to know more about certain moments in Beatles history. Borack does not go in too deep, as each one of these moments could, or have been a book all to themselves, but he does provide the necessary story and facts behind each moment. Newer fans, and those who are developing an interest in the band, will find this book very useful. And bottom line, readers will find it interesting.
