LOOPS & LOOPS – “PAIN IN MY HEART”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
NYC-based musician Pete Bogolub, (Loops & Loops) is a veteran of the DIY and underground music scenes, playing in bands with a heavy shoegaze influence since early college days. After dissolving his last collaboration in the 2000’s, fast forward 14 years and the pandemic opened the doors for him to find an intimate, lo-fi groove as a solo artist.
We’re proud to present “Pain In My Heart,” the second single from upcoming album, Fake Face. It’s an upbeat track evoking emotions of bittersweet nostalgia, employing bright ukulele and bouncy, energetic synths for a dream pop/shoegaze sound reminiscent of the Magnetic Fields. Clocking at just under 2 minutes, Bogolub lets us in on the inner monologue of someone navigating the confusing, limbo-like transition period of a breakup.
His new album, Fake Face, is a lovechild born of quarantine that’s as timely as it is timeless. This past year has been one of much reflection, putting our relationships and daily lives under a magnifying glass. Whether platonic or romantic, Pete takes a deep dive into those relationships that haven’t quite worked out, even the ties we have with places and things of the past. The album title ties into that concept as well. Pete explains that, “[Fake Face] Refers to the mask that we wear that is not our authentic selves. When we smile at a job we dislike, smile to those whose company we do not enjoy, smile in a town we hate, or smile to ourselves when we are unhappy.”
Listen to “Pain In My Heart” from upcoming album Fake Face, streaming everywhere on June 7th.
Artist Quote
“The newest album, [Fake Face] is less of a lo-fi album than my previous solo work, and more of a return to indie roots of such bands as Yo La Tengo and the Magnetic Fields.” ~Pete Bogolub of Loops & Loops
