ELECTRONIC THE DUCK – EP1
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREMIERE
Electronic the Duck would have kicked down the automatic electro door with a webbed foot if they could. As it happens, it opened for them on arrival. EP1 Is their debut EP. A collection of tracks that could only have been produced by starting before, and ending during, a global pandemic.
A collection of tracks bound together by fear, hope, anxiety and freedom, calm on the surface – paddling like billy-o underneath. Electronic the Duck have gained critical praise for the instrumental track “Electric Left Hand”, and the spoken word hit “Microphones (ft David J Widmann)”, both of which are included on this greatly anticipated EP.
The three remaining tracks do not let up. “Grip” is a dark, brooding minimalist industrial stomper evoking a bygone age when coal was king. “Better Place” is the potential jewel in the pond – dubbed the anthem of lockdown, a chillstep melodic vocal, building to a finish that would have the empty clubs of Soho crying for their missing beats. “Song for a new conservatory” is like day break -t he morning after, the light at the end of a tunnel that can’t go on for ever.
EP1 Is a rare case these days. Not least because it is available on cassette tape, a move which sees pre-saves being rewarded with a free physical copy of EP1 on tape. No, a rare case in that as well as delivering stand-alone songs, it is also designed to be listened to in its entirety. A journey from beginning to end.
2021 is the year of the Duck.
Artist Quote
“EP1 is done, gone. Just like Government Frank and C3PO on a bike. We’ve sold the synth and bought a surfboard. Will there be an EP2? Who knows? Depends on the waves.”
