In the Eighties, a geekey teen (or any other) movis was always accompanied by some (usually exquisite) electro-pop. Human League, Orchestral Maneouvres In The Dark, Heaven 17, even A Flock of Seagulls (they had their moments too) — it didnβt matter, it somehow fit and no doubt sounded great.
In many ways,Β 21-year-old LA artist Eli Raybon is one of those geeks, with his updated tech/space themes, all computers, androids and star children. He lists no less than 21 different synths used in recording the album.
By now, you might have guessed that Raybon is all electro-pop, which fits squarely in that Eighties bracket, and all those geek labels surely deserve positive connotations. This is an Eighties party album fitted with all these modern tech lyrics.
Call it derivative all you want, but it is highly enjoyable through and through, from βId of the Android,β and βPrimitive Man.β to βPlutoβs First Popstar.β They all work.
