Nothing Here is the third release from L.A.’s  Tombstones In Their Eyes. This is psychedelic rock, done 2018 style. Tombstones In Their Eyes’ current lineup is John Treanor (guitar, vocals, keyboards, songwriter), Josh Drew (guitar, backing vocals), Mike Mason (bass, guitar) and Stephen Striegel (drums). Treanor co-produced the album with Paul Roessler (Nina Hagen, Mike Watt, Nervous Gender).

The EP is short, three songs, but well worth your time. It kicks off with the moody “Silhouette” and goes from there.  Musically, “Silhouette” has a slow burn intro then it builds throughout, ending with grinding guitars and solid rhythm until the conclusion. It is a perfect burst of energy and a the only introduction that would fit for Nothing Here.

“Take Me Away” picks up where “Silhouette” leaves off and continues with the dark sounding psychedelic music. The EP ends with the title track “Nothing Here”. Individually each track works fine, but it is by listening to the EP as a whole that one gets the picture. Nothing Here is an expression of personal pain, and one cannot help but look at the track order and see the concept. “Silhouette”. “Take Me Away” and “Nothing Here”.  Trying to escape into a different landscape, and this is what the band does musically. Although many other bands have been over this ground before, Tombstones In Their Eyes carve out their own piece, their own distinct sound.

Nothing Here is a well produced, heavy EP. The music sets the tone and is perfect for the goal of the record. Blues, rock, and psychedelic flow in and out of the listener’s ears as Treanor treats his audience to his blend of rock. Fans of the band will not be disappointed, and some fans of psychedelic rock and just plain rock may find themselves entering into this world and liking it.

Nothing Here is the perfect EP to head into the long nights of autumn and winter, while still having a great deal of kick to it. I also think it is time, after two EPs, for the band to get together and put together an LP.
