ART BERGMANN THE APOSTATE OFFICIALLY RELEASED TODAY + BC/ONTARIO TOUR UPDATED
TOUR KICKS OFF MAY 20th IN VANCOUVER – ONTARIO DATES SET FOR JUNE
Today marks the official release of Art Bergmann’s The Apostate, the Canadian music legend’s first full-length album in 18 years.
Bergmann worked with Calgary-based producer Lorrie Matheson and a stellar group of multi-instrumentalists on The Apostate, crafting sounds suited to the subject matter of each songβthe hazy Americana of βAtheist Prayer,β the mesmerizing North African majesty of βMirage (The Apostate),β the ragged Stones-y groove of βLive It Up,β the epic sweep of the 12-minute βPioneers,β and the stark intimacy of βThe Legend Of Bobby Bird.β
Tour dates in support of The Apostate kick off May 20 at The Fox Cabaret in Vancouver, with Ontario shows confirmed for late June. Please see below for the full schedule.
More About Art Bergmann
Art Bergmannβs 40-plus-year career began in earnest as a member of the seminal Vancouver punk band the K-Tels, later known as the Young Canadians. By the mid-1980s, he formed Poisoned, recording an independent EP with fledgling producer Bob Rock, which led to four acclaimed solo albums including his 1988 John Cale-produced debut Crawl With Me, 1995’s JUNO-winning What Fresh Hell Is This?
During the ensuing years, Bergmann’s involvement in the music scene waned as he battled the onset of osteoarthritis and moved to the small community of Airdrie, Alberta near Calgary. He made a tentative return to the stage in 2009 at the urging of Great Lake Swimmers’ leader Tony Dekker, which led to a partnership with Toronto-based Weewerk Recordings.
In 2014, Weewerk released the four-song EP, Songs For The Underclass, which Bergmann supported with a short tour featuring a band comprised of Blue Rodeo’s Glenn Milchem, bassist John Dinsmore, and longtime collaborators Chris Wardman and Jason Sniderman, who will again be backing him on his upcoming Ontario dates.
Despite his ongoing health issues, The Apostate finds Art Bergmann at the top of his creative game, exploring new musical approaches, while maintaining the lyrical fire that has earned him the reputation as Canadian music’s undisputed arbiter of truth.
