SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: SOME VELVET MORNING – TELL THE SUMMER HANG ON

Some Velvet Morning

SOME VELVET MORNING
TELL THE SUMMER HANG ON
INDEPENDENT

When Londoners Some Velvet Morning came to the scene back in 2007, they made it immediately with their debut album Silence Will Kill You. The album itself was produced by Coldplay collaborator Rik Simpson, and in a way, it was a telling sign what kind of music SVM are coming up with – the sophisticated pop rock Coldplay style that was all the rage at the time.

Some 18 years later, celebrating 25 years playing together, the  Lambert brothers, the main force behind the band along with their drummer Rob Flanagan, came up with their fifth album proper, Tell the Summer Hang On. At its original release in December 2025, the album didn’t catch as much fire as their previous release did, so the band decided to make the album compatible with the actual season, re-hashing it in July 2026.

The original sound Some Velvet Morning came up with is there, and it actually fits the season. The question is though whether the fans of that sound are still around, but their quality pop certainly is.
