I HATE COMPUTERS – “DIE FOR YOU”
INDEPENDENT
Toronto-based indie/electronic trio I HATE COMPUTERS release their debut album Die For You, a collection of raw and immersive songs that confront the realities of modern life: disconnection, digital disillusionment, and the messy beauty of being human in a world run by machines.
Described by the band (Aaron Christie -vocals, guitar, synth, bass, Jeff Boulton drums/percussion, synth, vocals, and Steve Davis -vocals, guitar, keys, bass) as “anthems for the digitally disillusioned,” “Die For You” fuses brooding synths, layered guitars, pulsing rhythms, and stark lyricism. It’s a soundtrack for those who question what’s real in a world of filters and noise—where intimacy is fragile, algorithms shape desire, and connection often slips through the cracks.
The album opens with “You and I,” a confessional and atmospheric debut single that explores identity and misunderstood connection. The track is accompanied by a striking video featuring a solitary astronaut traversing a surreal landscape—a visual metaphor for the isolation and emotional distance the song examines.
“High Walls,” the second single released ahead of the album, is a politically charged anthem critiquing greed, corruption, and division. Anchored by layered analog synths, the track builds to a climactic surge of distorted chaos, mirroring the collapse of empires built on ego and fear.
At the center of the record is the title track, “Die For You,” a sonic deep dive into the unraveling of devotion, where love meets its limits in the shadows. Anchored by its attacking percussion, jangling nostalgic guitar lines and aching piano, the song unfolds as a final letter – a singular refusal shouted out in the dark. It tells the story of someone standing at the edge of another’s chaos, once willing to follow, but now awakened. “I will not die for you” becomes both mantra and rebellion cry… a fierce reclaiming of the self.
There’s an innate beauty in the breaking point at the end of each chorus, where the heart learns that love amidst ruin is not love at all. It is a powerful refusal to be consumed by another’s darkness, choosing self-preservation over blind loyalty. The track drips at times with sorrow, and at other times with anthemic hope… but hums with liberation as the narrator chooses to live— alone, but whole, rather than to give into the chaos surrounding him.
Across its tracks, “Die For You“ captures a wide emotional spectrum: melancholic yet anthemic, vulnerable yet cinematic, digital yet deeply human. “The album explores some of the dark complexities of the human condition. At its core, a project seeped in real human emotion, but wrapped in a robot shell,” explains Aaron. “It’s about how our emotions, our flaws, and our vulnerabilities collide with the digital structures we live inside every day.”
I HATE COMPUTERS offer more than a debut with “DIE FOR YOU”—they present a fully realized artistic vision that is as thought-provoking as it is immersive. The album invites listeners to inhabit a world where human emotion and technological influence collide, revealing both fragility and resilience. From soaring synth passages to intimate, confessional moments, each track draws the listener deeper into the band’s exploration of identity, loyalty, and emotional truth. By blending narrative depth with layered, dynamic production, “Die For You” creates a space where reflection and intensity coexist.
ARTIST QUOTE
“We approached this project differently than anything we’ve done before. Every stage was intentionally collaborative—whether it was writing, arranging, or producing—and that openness pushed us to experiment in ways we wouldn’t have on our own,” explains Steve. “The result feels bigger than any one of us.”
