YSSY – “BURN MY HOUSE DOWN”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Toronto alt-pop duo YSSY (singer-songwriter/producer Elliot Caroll and multi-instrumentalist/producer Simeon Abbott) shares the captivating music video for this retro-tinged synthpop anthem about changing your life. Directed and animated by Martin MacPhersonโwho has created videos for bands like Hollerado, Anyway Gang, and PUPโthe stop motion story depicts a mental health struggle through the nostalgic cut-out world of a paper doll, who gradually decides to break out of her carefully-crafted cycle. “Burn My House Down” is the final single from YSSY’s upcoming EP The Way It Was, due out February 14.
Artist Quote
On the video’s inspiration, Elliot says: “While we were writing and recording this song, I always pictured a doll in a dollhouse, being played with in the same way every day, comfortable but totally trapped. Marty, whose work we are huge fans of, suggested using classic paper dolls to bring this idea to life, which was a dream because I am obsessed with miniatures. The result is a really fun, artful, introspective portrait of what feeling stuck and wanting to take a step can look like. We included many personal details in it, and hope the track speaks to anyone looking to make a change.”
