THE TAMMY SHINE – “SO VERY LITTLE”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
The Tammy Shine is the new solo project of Tammy Ealom of the Denver, Colorado indiepop band Dressy Bessy. Tammy has been collaborating in bands since the mid 90’s, but a solo live set at the Athens Popfest in 2018 lit a fire and The Tammy Shine was born. The solo project wasn’t built overnight and in 2019 Dressy Bessy had a new album and touring to promote it, but during the shut down and pandemic, life on the road switched to one at home and The Tammy Shine fully started to take form. With Dressy Bessy, the formula is sugary sweet indiepop with a high energy garage rock style performance, so all the songs are short and sweet and to the point.
The Tammy Shine is a true solo project as Tammy played everything on the album, did all the artwork, did all her photo shoots, and even did all the recording, there seemed to be true freedom to pull from everything that worked for Dressy Bessy and to try some new things that would have felt out of place in that project. The debut album OK Shine OK is a twelve-song mix of indiepop, garage rock, glam, power pop, jangle pop, post punk, and some new wave with a ‘throw it at the wall and see what sticks’ playfulness that sounds fresh and exciting. The second single “So Very Little” comes off strong with this odd hybrid vibe of a dirge-laden Kristin Hersh single, a touch of southern gothic R.E.M., and T-Rex if Marc Bolan had been able to lean further into the punk scene he was starting to enjoy. The single is a total earworm with its unstoppable melody and classic Tammy snarl delivery.
When asking Tammy where the song came from, the answer, much like her music, was short, sweet, and to the point: “‘So Very Little’ is a song about the push and pull between ego and intuition. How your ego can sometimes get in the way of following your instincts if you let it.”
OK Shine OK comes out on February 20th, 2026, on CD / LP and digitally via Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records. The Tammy Shine will be touring this spring into summer and beyond to support the album.
