ELI GARDINER – “BAD WEED”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE
Live In Minneapolis is the first live album from Minnesota based Americana songwriter Eli Gardiner and his 6th overall.
The path of a song is always changing, into new ears and through new perspective. Eli has always chased it, though. Sometimes as a solo or duo act, and now with his fully formed 5 piece band. Live In Minneapolis is a snapshot in time, a band in a room, on a cold February night.
Eli was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to a musical family. His dad played classical guitar and his mom piano and flute. Taking up songwriting initially as poetry, he started to write songs as his dad taught him chords on an old nylon string Yamaha guitar.
Live In Minneapolis it has songs from many different times in Eli’s life. From brand new songs, to songs that are 20 years old. Songs of travel, tornadoes and finding your voice.
The album was recorded live at Aster Cafe February 3rd 2023 by Alchemy Audio. It was mixed and mastered at Gardiner Productions. All songs written by Eli Gardiner. Greg Schutte on drums. Kevin Gamble on keys. Dan Schwartz played lap steel and electric guitar. Nick Salisbury on bass and Eli Gardiner on guitar and vocals
“Bad Weed” is about struggling to find your own voice and just being stubborn and plowing ahead, like a weed through the dry days, the roots and the cement that can get in the way of that creative spark. I wrote this at a time in my life I had to believe in myself, and I decided to grow despite the obstacles. playing this with the band has turned it into a swampy groove of a song.
