YTTLING JAZZ & BOBBY GILLESPIE SHARE NEW VIDEO FOR “STRANGE” CO-DIRECTED BY GILLESPIE
YEAR0001
Yttling Jazz and Bobby Gillespie share a new video version of their collaboration “Strange” today. Co-directed by Gillespie and Henry Moore Selder, the new version incorporates footage shot at the North London barbershop of Gillespie’s longtime friend Omer, who is closing his shop after more than 40 years serving the community. Filmed by Billy Lumby in London and Henry Moore Selder in Stockholm.
Says Bobby Gillespie: “The day after we released this mystical song, I woke up with an idea for a music video. My friend Omer is sadly soon to be closing his wonderful barbershop after over 40 years of service to the community of North London. I felt it would be a good thing to immortalise both his shop and our friendship. Björn liked the idea and sent over a guy with an iPhone. After two hours, we were done, and my dream was realised. Many thanks to Omer for the nice shave.”
“Strange” appears on Illegal Hit (Out of Bounds), out now via YEAR0001 — a three-disc deluxe expansion of Yttling Jazz’s acclaimed 2025 album Illegal Hit, which earned a Swedish Grammy nomination for Best Jazz. The deluxe release features five brand new songs, new and extended versions of original tracks, two instrumentals, and guest appearances from Yukimi of Little Dragon, Joshua Idehen, Matt Sweeney, The Tallest Man On Earth, El Perro Del Mar, and more. The original video for “Strange” was directed by Henry Moore Selder (The Knife, The Hives).
Yttling Jazz is the long-standing jazz project of Björn Yttling — one third of Peter Bjorn and John and one of Sweden’s most in-demand producers and songwriters, with credits spanning Lykke Li, Robyn, Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, First Aid Kit, The Hives, Neko Case, and Chrissie Hynde, among many others. Björn produced and co-wrote several albums for Primal Scream, making his reunion with Bobby Gillespie on “Strange” a natural one. Most recently, Björn co-wrote, co-produced, co-arranged strings, and played piano on Lykke Li’s forthcoming album The Afterparty (due May 8th) and will join her live this month at Coachella (April 10 and 17) and at her Los Angeles show at The Fonda Theatre (April 14).
