VOWWS TO OPEN FOR THE CULT ON U.S. TOUR
THE DUO WILL OPEN FOR THE BRITISH ROCK BAND IN 13 SHOWS
Following a sold out tour with White Lies in February, VOWWS’ will tour in support of the iconic British band The Cult performing in 13 cities, including Brooklyn, San Antonio, Atlantic City, Dallas, Houston and more!
VOWWS released a new single earlier this year called “Heartbreaker.” The song was produced by the band and Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Fear Factory, Youth Code). “Hearbreaker” is the first single off VOWWS’ sophomore album due out mid-2017. Their debut album, “The Great Sun” was released in 2015 and featured collaborations with the great Gary Numan and Swans producer Kevin McMahon.
“Heartbreaker” can also be considered a cautionary sign for the energy you can expect from their shows — it’s a flash-grenade of musical justice, opening up with the layered ramblings of a mad man before exploding into an urgent groove of cascading beats, vertical guitars and a guiding, screaming synth, pummeling you over the head with a sick smile on its face.
“We wanted this song to be a window into casual insanity. It’s war music for peaceful people cos when everything looks the same, it’s harder to choose,” says Matt.
About VOWWS
Australian duo VOWWS met while studying music in Western Sydney. They played in multiple prominent experimental rock bands together and quickly became fixtures in Sydney’s underground music scene. It didn’t take long for the duo to become restless however, and soon enough they packed up, said goodbye to Australia and moved to Brooklyn NY in 2011 – where where they began writing music together with full focus.
Initially, although Matt and Rizz shared many common inspirations and influences, they had distinctly different working and writing styles – often leaving them at odds as to how to flesh out their vision.
Gradually their tension, conflict and chemistry began to define their world and their sound, and at the same time, friend, producer (and sometimes mediator) Kevin McMahon helped capture this dichotomy on tape. The duo wrote and recorded throughout 2013/14, piecing together a collection of tracks that would become their debut album, The Great Sun.
Released in October 2015, The Great Sun boasts a dense collection of pop songs writhing underneath layers of tape distortion – a dirty, grinding and swaying work co-produced by McMahon and featuring guest appearances by Industrial legend Gary Numan, Swan’s percussionist Thor Harris, and spawning a remix of the track Holy Youth by Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence) in 2016.
Their intensely focussed live show creates a thumping tempest of sound, with the charismatically restrained duo commanding proceedings from the eye of the storm.
VOWWS relocated to LA in 2015, where they are now based.
