HOT CHIP ANNOUNCE FIRST EVER REISSUES OF THE WARNING, MADE IN THE DARK AND ONE LIFE STAND ALBUMS WILL BE RELEASED JULY 17
DOMINO RECORDING COMPANY
Hot Chip announce the reissue of The Warning, Made In The Dark and One Life Stand, their second, third and fourth albums. These seminal releases are being reissued this year for the first time and together map out the evolution of one of the UK’s most dynamic and vital electronic bands. They are proof positive of Joe Goddard, Alexis Taylor, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin’s lifelong friendship and musical chemistry, as well as of their youthful studio adventuring.
They are the sound of a band fusing all of their myriad influences into a leftfield electro-pop bricolage, and of joyful dance renegades who pull off the trick of making end-of-the-night anthems with proper heart and soul. Taken together, these albums are also manifestos for refusing conformity, doing the unexpected, and how to be enduring outliers colouring in the edges of great British music.
Set for release on July 17 via Domino, all three albums will be available on double gatefold vinyl, including Made In The Dark for the first time ever, while the vinyl release of The Warning will feature the color artwork for the first time as a new edition. Digitally, each album will be packaged with a ‘Disc 2’ of B-sides and rarities, several of which have never been previously available on DSPs.
Ahead of The Warning’s 20th anniversary tomorrow, Hot Chip are pleased to share “Bally” – one of the band’s sparser tracks that allow for Taylor’s heartfelt and melancholic vocals to take centre stage amid soft hand claps and gentle melodica. Originally “Bally” was released as a bonus 7” when The Warning was released in 2006 but has since been unavailable to buy/stream. As part of the reissues, it will be available on the Dom Mart-exclusive 7”.
Rewind to the year 2006 in British music. Guitar bands in winklepickers and waistcoats were out in force up and down the country. Pop-punk and easy-listening rock was manspreading across the top of the album charts. Then along came Hot Chip like a kaleidoscopic bolt from the blue. Their trio of albums, 2006’s The Warning, 2008’s Made In the Dark and 2010’s One Life Stand, defined a decade indebted to the dancefloor and turned a generation of indie fans onto the hedonistic pleasure of repetitive beats. The band opened a portal to another place, an inventive universe where Prince and The Beach Boys kicked back with New Order and Devo – and not a pork pie hat in sight.
Twenty years on, Hot Chip’s music remains as relevant as ever. The band perform two of their best-loved songs, “Ready For The Floor” and “Over And Over”, in the new season of Netflix show BEEF, with actor Oscar Isaac joining them on a Minimoog for the latter – watch a clip here. And further testament to their strength as songwriters, “Boy From School”, their eternal anthem for sensitive outsiders, was recently explored in an episode of the celebrated Song Exploder podcast – listen here. Meanwhile, Hot Chip’s reputation as one of the world’s best live acts is apparent from their sold-out global Best Of tour, with the tracklist of their 2025 compilation, Joy In Repetition, mirroring the setlist of their legendary live performances.
