KIM DEAL ANNOUNCES DEBUT SOLO ALBUM & SHARES “CRYSTAL BREATH”
ALBUM OUT IN NOVEMBER VIA 4AD
Kim Deal announces her debut solo album, Nobody Loves You More, due November 22nd on 4AD. She recently shared βCrystal Breath,β a delicious dose of distortion filled with pulsating beats and fuzzy riffs. Accompanying the track is a video by art director Alex Da Corte.
Nobody Loves You More is Kim Dealβs debut album although itβs not the first time she has gone solo β she self-released a five-part, ten-song seven-inch vinyl series in 2013. In keeping with Dealβs meticulous approach to her art, the album was refined over several years.. Its oldest songs (βAre You Mine?β and βWish I Wasβ) were written and originally recorded in 2011 shortly after Deal came off the Pixiesβ βLost Cities Tourβ and relocated to Los Angeles (early versions of those songs were included in said vinyl series); the last recording for Nobody Loves You More took place in November 2022 with legendary engineer and close friend Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. Along the way she has brought in a variety of collaborators from Breeders past and present (Mando Lopez, twin sister Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, Britt Walford), to Raymond McGinley (Teenage Fanclub), Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs) and Savagesβ Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan. Nobody Loves You More was mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Heba Kadry.
Nobody Loves You More will be released digitally and on CD, cassette (Bandcamp only), standard black vinyl, Florida Orange vinyl (indie retail only) and Dazzling Galaxy vinyl (4AD & artist store only).
Every song has a story behind it, from the winter vacations with her parents in Florida Keys, wedding band covers of βMargaritaville,β to her motherβs dementia All in all, the record is a celebration of Dealβs unmatched artistry, nodding not only to her career highlights with celebrated bands across the alternative landscape (The Breeders, The Amps, Pixies), but also to her immovable cultural weight influencing musicians like Kurt Cobain and Olivia Rodrigo through the generations.
The album also contains the previously released single βCoast,β which received praise from outlets likeΒ The New York Times,Β Rolling Stone,Β PitchforkΒ andΒ PAPER Magazine, who called it βlush and breezy.β
