BORY ANNOUNCES SIGNING TO NEW TORONTO LABEL BLEAK ENTERPRISE
SHARES “WE’LL BURN THAT BRIDGE WHEN WE GET TO IT”
Bory is the project of Portland-based songwriter Brenden Ramirez, who just two releases into his young career has proved himself one of the most engaging power pop songwriters of his moment. Following 2021’s Sidelined EP, songwriter Ramirez emerged into the wider music world with his 2023 debut LP Who’s A Good Boy. A blend of classic power pop and emotive indie rock redolent of Ramirez’ Pacific Northwestern roots, the album earned comparisons to Elliott Smith, Big Star, The Shins and Tony Molina from outlets like Stereogum, Uproxx, and Pitchfork, who said that the album “surges with quiet confidence and an open heart.”
Today, two years to the day that his debut album was released, Bory is returning to share a new single entitled “We’ll Burn That Bridge When We Get To It.” The release of the single coincides with Bory’s signing to Bleak Enterprise, a new Toronto-based imprint on which Bory will be announcing a new LP in early 2026. The single is the label’s first release.
Channelling the earnest beauty of early Elliott Smith, blended with the power pop bombast of Big Star and the playful strut of Tony Molina, “We’ll Burn That Bridge When We Get To It” is a perfect encapsulation of Bory’s unique strain of guitar pop. Ramirez’ adept songwriting has a timeless quality that’s beautifully complimented by an ambitious approach to production and arrangement, lending a giddy edge to this studied guitar pop composition that explores the way his conflict aversion can complicate his life.
Ramirez says of the track: “This song [and a lot of songs on this record] explores my non-confrontational tendencies. I sometimes get caught up in the social gymnastics of wanting to please everyone and I wrote this at an emotional time when it felt like regardless of what I do or say, someone is not going to be happy about it.”
